Care-Ability Training can assist organisations to claim funding for social care training courses and development of social care staff in line with industry requirements. The initial cost of the course must be paid in advance, but when completed each trainee (or their employer) may apply for reimbursement from the relevant organisation or Government department.

AIMS & COURSE CONTENT

Conflict Management and Disengagement Training

Aim:
Our Conflict Management and Disengagement Course can be tailored to suit the needs of your organisation.

Our One day course covers the following:
We look at the definition of work-related violence and how it can affect the care sector. Work is done on risk-reduction measures and avoiding conflict, and making you aware of how we can use dynamic risk assessments in all situations that we may find ourselves in. It is important to be able to understand anger and some of the triggers that we all have, and time is spent on this course looking at attitude and the behaviour cycle, which are important things for you to be aware of when working with people.

Non-aggressive communication is discussed, teaching you how to protect yourself whilst being aware of your body language and how even small changes to this can affect a person's response to you. Defusing and calming strategies are discussed, giving the participants plenty of opportunity to share their experience and learn from each other.

Obviously, with recent interest into the use of restraint techniques within care, it is important for you to understand the law with regards to self defence and the ethical principles that surround it.

The second half of the day is spent learning safe disengagement techniques for staff to use to get out of arm, clothing and hair grabs. We look at how to protect yourself against punches, kicks and bites.

We demonstrate low-level, non-restrictive escorts and guides designed to get people to a safe place.

Finally, we look at post-incident recording and the importance of reflective practice for individuals and organisations.
